Mission

Enhanced Manpack (UHF) Terminal - Spitfire/Shadowfire provides small, lightweight terminals for secure data and digital voice communications via Demand Assigned Multiple Access (DAMA) networks using UHF satellites to Army Special Operations Forces (SOF) and other designated units of the Army, Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps.

Description

The AN/PSC-5 SPITFIRE | AN/PSC-5C SHADOWFIRE are tactical satellite radios. They are small, lightweight terminals for half-duplex, secure, data and digital voice communications through UHF satellites. In addition to the satellite relay communications mode, the Spitfire is capable of communicating Line Of Sight (LOS). The major components consist of a Receiver/Transmitter with embedded Communications Security (COMSEC) and DAMA, battery box, LOS antenna, handset, and associated cables. A satellite antenna is issued during fielding. The AN/PSC-5C Shadowfire provides each of the capabilities of the AN/PSC-5 Spitfire terminal, plus additional capabilities for Have Quick I/II and SINCGARS.
